Recruiting during COVID-19

Information to ensure safety and stop the spread.

Last minute changes

As a precaution and in the interests of helping New Zealand’s efforts to minimise any spread of COVID-19, a number of our planned recruitment events including information evenings or assessment centres may change at late notice.

We appreciate that this may cause disappointment and want to apologise for any inconvenience. The safety and wellbeing of our staff and communities is our highest priority, which is why we are taking every precaution to proactively keep everyone safe. We will continue to closely monitor government advice and will contact you with a new date when we can.

All of us have a role to play in stopping any further spread. For up-to-date information and advice on COVID-19, please visit the Ministry of Health website.

We'll be running interviews online using a few different technologies depending on the role you're applying for or the stage of the process you are at.  When we invite you to an interview the email will contain information about how to connect and contact details of your interview just in case technology lets you down.

Medical Assessments

As part of the recruitment process, we may ask for a medical assessment. During COVID-19 restrictions, it may not be possible for you to complete a face-to-face medical assessment with your GP.

If you are asked for a medical assessment, you will need to review the options below and advise us on which option will work for you:

Candidates visiting sites

Our COVID-19 SCOPE document outlines the process the Department will follow to help minimise the risk of exposure to COVID-19 when candidates undertake site visits at Prisons. This process is put in place to keep you, our staff and people in our care safe.

You must read the COVID-19 SCOPE document carefully before visiting a prison site during COVID-19.

If anything noted on page 1 of the document applies to you, please let us know immediately and we can discuss further. If we need re-schedule your SCOPE to a later day, please be assured this won’t affect your application with us.

It is extremely important that we check your wellness and confirm this before you attend a site visit, so please ensure you let us know of any concerns or questions you may have. If you start to develop any symptoms mentioned in this information the day before or morning of your SCOPE, please do not attend, let us know by email and we will re-schedule you.
