Manurewa Service Manager Selwyn and Probation Officer Sana got stuck in for Super Saturday, volunteering at the "It’s a Shore thing" vaccination drive at Eventfinda Stadium. By the 1pm kick off, there were cars lined down the block, and Selwyn and Sana were there to greet everyone and hand out gift packs to say malo ‘aupito to everyone who got vaccinated.
“We wanted to do our part to help raise our vaccination rates, particularly within our Tongan community. As a leader, it’s important to ‘lead by example, from the front’,” says Selwyn. “I was so proud and amazed at the huge turn out.“
The event was led by The Fono with support from various other community organisations, who all came together to encourage people to get vaccinated.
“It was beautiful sunny day; we had music, dancing, giveaways and a lot of laughter and fun. The whole experience was great, and felt even more rewarding later on in the day when it was announced that as a nation we had surpassed the goal of having 100,000 people vaccinated,” says Sana
