Guy the new recruiter holding a sign

Hi, I’m Guy – a new recruiter here at Corrections. Over the past while, I’ve been talking to our frontline teams to get a feel for the type of people who work here and what it takes to do this job. I’ve spent time with our corrections officers, community teams, health specialists, and the folks who keep everything running behind the scenes to understand the challenges they face every day.

The truth is, it ain’t glossy. It’s tough, real, sometimes gritty – but always rewarding. And it matters. I’m not just looking at CVs – I’m looking for a certain type of person. You can’t be a lone wolf or a do-gooder either. You’ve got to be calm under pressure, able to read a room, non-judgmental, big-hearted, patient, and keen to help keep communities safe.

Sound like you? Check out what the real job involves and apply today.

Find your place

Corrections isn’t just one role - it’s a team effort with different skills and strengths. So, where do you fit? Let me walk you through the options.

Custodial

This is where safety starts. You’ll be face-to-face with people in prison, keeping things secure and respectful. It’s not just about locks and gates - it’s about managing situations, building trust, and helping people head in a better direction. If you can stay calm under pressure and connect with people, this could be your spot.

Health

Our health team looks after the wellbeing of people in prison. Psychologists, nurses, mental health specialists - they’re all here making sure care is delivered where it’s needed most. It’s challenging work, but you’ll see the impact every day. If you want a role in a unique environment, working with diverse and complex needs, this is it. You’ll never stop learning.

Rehabilitation

This is where change happens. You’ll run programmes that tackle the tough stuff - addiction, behaviour, decision-making. You’ll work with people to build better habits and a better future. It’s not easy, but if you believe people can turn things around, you’ll love this work.

Education, employment and trades

Our vocational team teaches practical skills that open doors after prison. Carpentry, catering, trades - you’ll help people learn and prepare for real jobs. If you’re patient, hands-on, and like seeing progress, this is your space. You’re not just teaching - you’re changing futures.

Community and reintegration

Not everything happens inside prison. You’ll work with people serving sentences out in the community - guiding, monitoring, and supporting them to stay on track. It’s about trust and tough conversations when needed. If you’re good with people and want to make a difference, this is for you.

Supporting services

Our support team makes sure the frontline can do their job. From HR and finance to IT and admin, they clear roadblocks and keep things moving. If you’re organised and like being the person who gets things done, you’ll fit right in. It’s behind the scenes, but nothing works without this crew.

Not sure where to start?

I get it – there are a lot of options. That’s why I put together a quick quiz to help you figure out where you might fit best. Answer a few questions and I’ll point you towards the teams and roles that suit your strengths.
