From competitions for who can hold a 10kg bag for the longest, to conversations about how we’re more than just prisons, the NZ Careers Expo is always a highlight on our recruitment team’s calendar.

The expo is held annually at seven events around the country, featuring exhibits from over a hundred organisations. The primary audience is school students, but it is open to adults as well, creating a space where people can come together to explore different careers and get excited for the future.

Corrections has attended for the past two years and is looking forward to attending once again in 2025.

Engagement Adviser, Yuval Zalk-Neale says that last year’s event was beneficial on multiple fronts.

“It was great to see us engaging with the public, building awareness, and deepening their understanding of what we do.

A lot of people don’t know the full breadth of careers with us. So, meeting people or taking part in some of the activities we had at the stall, helped to broaden peoples’ perspective.”

At last year’s event, the team had different challenges at the stall, some of them testing physical strength, and others testing critical thinking. Staff from a range of roles attended, including nurses, case managers, Corrections Officers, and staff in corporate roles.
